## A Symbol of the Saxon Community in Alma Vii The Alma Vii Fortified Evangelical Church stands as one of the most valuable testimonies of Saxon heritage in Sibiu County. Built in the 15th century, the church combines Gothic elements with defensive adaptations specific to the Transylvanian region, reflecting the community's need for protection against invasions. Although the exact construction date is not precisely documented, the church was first mentioned in ecclesiastical records in 1429, solidifying its role as a spiritual center and refuge for the village's inhabitants. ## Architecture and Fortifications The structure impresses with its robust design, characteristic of fortified churches in Transylvania. The bell tower, constructed in the 16th century, dominates the ensemble and served both as an observation point and a final bastion of defense. The rectangular nave retains Gothic features, such as ogival windows and a ribbed vault, while the altar, added later, displays subtle Baroque influences. Thick walls, equipped with battlements and a walkway, surround the church, forming a fortified enclosure that also included storage facilities for provisions. The interior houses a valuable collection of religious furnishings, including an 18th-century pulpit and a stone baptismal font dated 1520. The organ, restored in the 19th century, completes the sober yet meaningful atmosphere of the sanctuary. ## Visitor Guide The church is located in the center of Alma Vii village, approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Mediaș. Access is via county road DJ142E, with parking available near the site. Visitors can explore the church and its fortified enclosure during the summer season (June-September), when it is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. For the rest of the year, access is by appointment by contacting the local Evangelical parish. Entry is free, but donations are welcome for the monument's upkeep. The village itself offers opportunities for nature walks and discovering local traditions, enhancing the cultural experience.
