## A Historical Gem in the Heart of Sibiu The Altemberger House History Museum stands on Mitropoliei Street No. 2, being one of the most valuable medieval buildings in Sibiu and an integral part of the Brukenthal National Museum. Built in the 16th century, the house bears the name of the Altemberger family, one of the most influential merchant and mayor dynasties of the city. Its architecture reflects the late Gothic style with Renaissance elements, characteristic of Sibiu's flourishing era. The robust facade, with pointed-arch windows and a massive entrance portal, preserves the medieval charm, while the inner courtyard and tiered loggia add a touch of elegance. ## A Journey Through Time: Permanent Exhibitions On the first floor, the museum hosts the exhibition *"The Evolution of Human Communities in Southern Transylvania,"* a fascinating journey through the region's history, from the Paleolithic to the Middle Ages. Rooms 2 and 3 reconstruct the Neolithic habitat, featuring tools, ceramics, and typical dwelling structures of that period. The Bronze Age is illustrated in Room 4 through artifacts and props that bring to life the daily existence of ancient communities. Room 5 is dedicated to the Dacian period, showcasing tools, jewelry, and cult objects, while Room 6 houses a reconstructed Dacian sanctuary, complete with offerings and religious symbols. The Roman period is evoked in Room 7, where a dwelling from Apoldu de Sus – Levejoare is recreated, featuring authentic furniture and household items. Room 8 concludes the journey with the interior of a medieval home, complemented by 15th-century furniture, textiles, and tools. ## The Arms and Armor Collection: A Treasure on the Ground Floor The ground floor of the museum houses one of Romania's most impressive collections of arms and armor, with over 1,900 pieces. The exhibition includes sabers, swords, full suits of armor, helmets, and shields, dating from the Middle Ages to the modern era. Among the exhibits are rare pieces, such as tournament armor, halberds, and ornate pistols, illustrating the evolution of military techniques and armorsmithing craftsmanship. ## Practical Guide for Visitors The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with the last entry at 4:30 PM. The admission ticket includes access to the entire exhibition complex. For a complete experience, visitors are recommended to allocate at least an hour and a half to explore each room in detail. Altemberger House is easily accessible from Sibiu's historic center, located just a few minutes away from the Grand Square.
