Despre acest obiectiv
## Antim Monastery – Founded by Saint Hierarch Antim Ivireanul Antim Monastery is located in the heart of Bucharest, on the street bearing its name, and is one of the oldest and most historically significant places of worship in the capital. Founded in 1713 by Saint Hierarch Antim Ivireanul, Metropolitan of Wallachia, the monastery was built on the site of an older wooden church dedicated to Saint Nicholas. The founder himself actively participated in the construction, contributing his craftsmanship to the creation of remarkable decorative elements, such as the icons of the four saints—Alexie, Nicholas, Antim, and Agata—or the massive oak door at the church’s entrance. The monastery was consecrated in 1715, becoming a symbol of Romanian spirituality and religious art. ## Architecture and Artistic Heritage The monastery’s church, constructed from brick, preserves elements specific to the Brâncovenesc style, with Oriental influences, reflecting the complex personality of its founder. Antim Ivireanul, originally from Iviria (present-day Georgia), brought artistic and theological traditions from the East, blending them with local craftsmanship. The interior of the church impresses with its mural paintings and richly ornamented iconostasis, while the iconostasis itself bears traces of his mastery. Over time, the monastery has undergone transformations but has retained its role as a spiritual center, serving as the residence of vicar bishops of the Patriarchate. ## Access and Visiting Antim Monastery is open to visitors daily, offering a peaceful refuge from the city’s hustle and bustle. The visiting schedule is adapted to religious services, so it is recommended to check the hours before arrival. In the monastery’s courtyard stands the Palace of the Holy Synod, built in 1910, which now houses the Library of the Holy Synod, a treasure trove of old books and rare manuscripts. The monastery is easily accessible, located near Bucharest’s historic center, at the intersection of Antim and Sfinții Apostoli streets.
