## A House with History: Botoșani County Ethnographic Museum The Botoșani County Ethnographic Museum opens its doors in a building of remarkable historical and architectural value: the house of Manolache Iorga, constructed at the end of the 18th century. This edifice is an eloquent example of Moldavian civil architecture from the era and is also linked to the name of the great historian Nicolae Iorga, whose great-grandfather was its owner. The structure preserves traditional elements, such as solid masonry, a four-sloped roof, and decorative details specific to the period, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into the atmosphere of boyar residences of the past. ## A Journey into the Rural Civilization of Botoșani Opened to the public in 1989, the museum collects and preserves the most representative elements of traditional culture from the region. The permanent exhibitions illustrate the main occupations of rural communities: agriculture, animal husbandry, hunting, fishing, and beekeeping, alongside crafts such as spinning, sewing, furriery, and pottery. The traditional folk costume, with its distinctive details, and customs related to important life moments—birth, marriage, and funeral—are presented in meticulous detail, offering a vivid image of local identity. The museum’s interior recreates the atmosphere of a traditional dwelling, complete with authentic furniture, household items, and a hearth where food was prepared. Among the remarkable exhibits are Cucuteni ceramics, painted eggs, handwoven carpets, and folk masks used in rituals and celebrations. These pieces not only attest to the skill of local craftsmen but also reflect the deep connection between people and nature, characteristic of the region. ## A Brief Guide for Visitors The museum is located in the center of Botoșani municipality, easily accessible for both passing tourists and those interested in the cultural heritage of the region.
