Despre acest obiectiv
## A Green Oasis in the Heart of Bucharest The Bucharest Botanical Garden, located at 32 Cotroceni Road, is one of the oldest and most valuable green spaces in the Romanian capital. Founded in 1860 by physician and naturalist Carol Davila, the garden was relocated to its current site only in 1891, under the supervision of botanist Dimitrie BrândzÄ and Belgian landscape architect Louis Fuchs. The project was completed after the construction of the greenhouses and their population with rare species, though the inauguration was overshadowed by the floods of 1892, which damaged part of the collections. Over time, the garden has faced numerous challenges. During World War I, German occupation troops caused significant damage, and in World War II, bombings destroyed much of the herbarium containing over 700,000 specimens, of which only 200,000 plates were saved. Today, the collection numbers approximately 500,000 specimens, carefully preserved. ## Botanical Diversity and Beauty The garden spans a generous area, organized into thematic sectors that showcase the diversity of flora. The ornamental plants sector delights visitors with vibrant colors and fragrances, while the geographical groups house rare species from Romania and the Mediterranean region. The flora of Dobrogea is represented by plants adapted to arid conditions, and the waterfall and Italian garden offer moments of relaxation. The rose garden, featuring hundreds of rose varieties, is a major attraction, alongside the useful plants sector and the one dedicated to the plant system. The arboretum and dendrarium shelter impressive tree specimens, while the greenhouse complex hosts exotic species, from palm trees to tropical plants. The Botanical Garden Museum, located at the entrance, completes the visitor experience with valuable exhibits: painted plates, fruits, seeds, and preserved plant fragments, organized by ecological and systematic criteria. ## Short Visitorâs Guide The Botanical Garden is open to the public year-round, with seasonal hours. Entry is through the main gate, where visitors can purchase tickets and access the museum. The trails are well-marked, allowing exploration of each sector at oneâs own pace. For a complete experience, it is recommended to allocate at least 2-3 hours. In the warm season, visitors can bring picnics or relax on strategically placed benches. The garden is also accessible to people with disabilities, and periodically organized events, such as exhibitions or workshops, add extra appeal.
