Despre acest obiectiv

## Bucharest Municipal Museum – A Journey Through the History and Culture of the Capital The Bucharest Municipal Museum opens its doors in the heart of the city, at 2 I.C. Brătianu Boulevard, within an emblematic building: the Suțu Palace. Founded in 1931 through the merger of the History Museum and the Art Museum, the institution was initially housed in the Moruzi House, moving to its current location in 1956, a 19th-century architectural monument. The Suțu Palace, built between 1833 and 1835 based on the plans of Viennese architect Conrad Schwink, blends neoclassical style with romantic elements, standing as one of the most representative aristocratic residences of old Bucharest. ## The Treasure of Bucharest’s Heritage The museum houses over 400,000 items, resulting from archaeological research, donations, and acquisitions, illustrating the city’s evolution from antiquity to contemporary times. The collections include historical documents, maps and plans, photographs, prints, weapons, decorative art objects, religious icons and sculptures, as well as fine art works signed by Romanian masters. The permanent exhibition is organized into two main halls. The *Red Salon* recreates the atmosphere of a 19th-century Bucharest interior, evoking the personalities of the Suțu family through furniture, portraits, and household objects. The *Archaeology Section* presents relics from the Dacian, Roman, and medieval eras, while the *Medieval Hall* features exceptional pieces, such as the Bible of Șerban Cantacuzino and the sword of Constantin Brâncoveanu. The *19th-Century Hall* reflects key moments in Romania’s modernization through period objects, documents, and photographs. ## Visitor Guide and Cultural Extensions The Bucharest Municipal Museum coordinates a network of specialized museums and collections, including the Theodor Aman Museum, the Frederic and Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck Museum, the Gheorghe Tattarescu Memorial Museum, the Dr. Nicolae Minovici Folk Art Museum, the Old Princely Court Museum, and the Admiral Vasile Urseanu Astronomical Observatory. The visiting program is tailored for the general public, with easy access from the city center and the opportunity to explore multiple cultural sites under its administration in a single day. A must-visit for those passionate about local history, the museum offers a comprehensive perspective on Bucharest, from its origins to the present day.
