Despre acest obiectiv
## History and Mission The Bucharest Municipality Museum traces its origins to 1921, when it was established under the name *Museum of the Bucharest Commune*, with the aim of preserving and promoting the historical and cultural heritage of the capital. Initially, the collections were housed in various locations until 1959, when the institution was reorganized and moved to its current building, Suțu Palace, an architectural monument representative of 19th-century Bucharest. Over the decades, the museum has become a reference point for understanding the urban and social evolution of the city, bringing together over 300,000 items—documents, photographs, works of art, furniture, and artifacts that illustrate the life of Bucharest’s residents from the Middle Ages to the present day. ## Architecture of Suțu Palace The building that houses the museum, Suțu Palace, is an architectural gem constructed between 1833 and 1835, based on the designs of the Viennese architect Conrad Schwink. The palace’s eclectic style blends neoclassical elements with Baroque and Neo-Gothic influences, reflecting the tastes of the Romanian aristocracy of the time. The main façade, symmetrical and imposing, is adorned with Doric columns and ornate balconies, while the interior preserves lavish details, such as the monumental marble staircase, painted ceilings, and elaborate stucco work. In 1959, the building was restored and adapted to serve as a museum, while retaining its original charm and elegance. ## Visitor Guide The Bucharest Municipality Museum is located in the historic center of the capital, at 2 Calea Victoriei, at the intersection with Ion Ghica Street.
