## A Window into Bucovina’s Traditions The Bucovina Museum of Popular Customs opens its doors in the heart of Gura Humorului, housed in a building as rich in history as the collections it preserves. Constructed in the late 19th century, the structure blends the elegance of eclectic architecture with the functionality of museum spaces, providing an authentic setting for the region’s cultural heritage. Established in 1958, the museum has become a landmark for preserving and promoting Bucovina’s identity, gathering over the decades objects and testimonies of traditional life. ## Bucovina’s Ethnographic and Artistic Treasure The museum’s heritage is organized into diverse collections, each telling a unique story. The ethnography section impresses with over 3,400 pieces showcasing traditional attire, ancient customs, craft tools, and household items, reflecting rural life from centuries past. The Constantin Scortaru Collection, featuring 3,000 exhibits, highlights iron traps, alphorns, harrows, and other 19th-century tools, alongside decorative textiles and carved furniture—testaments to local craftsmanship. Beyond its ethnographic dimension, the museum also houses a valuable art collection, including 4,600 works of satirical graphics, paintings by George Baron Lovendal and Georges Cotos—a French artist of Romanian origin—as well as creations by Bucovina painters. Sections on numismatics, history, and natural sciences complete the cultural offering, providing a comprehensive perspective on the region’s material and spiritual heritage. ## Practical Visitor Information The museum is open from Tuesday to Friday, between 08:00 and 16:00, welcoming both individual visitors and organized groups. Located at Republic Square No. 2 in the center of Gura Humorului, its position makes it easy to combine a visit with explorations of nearby attractions, such as Voroneț Monastery or the historic center of Suceava.
