## Buzău County Museum – A Cultural Institution with Deep Roots The Buzău County Museum is located at 50 Nicolae Bălcescu Street, in a building that holds the value of a historic monument. Although the central museum is currently (2026) closed for rehabilitation works, its heritage remains accessible to the public through its external collections, which continue to highlight the cultural and historical richness of the county. The museum building, constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, blends architectural elements specific to the neoclassical style with decorative details reflecting the taste of the era. The symmetrical façade, with tall windows and discreet ornaments, gives the edifice a sober elegance, fitting for its role as a guardian of local memory. Although restoration works began in 2010 and lasted approximately three years, the museum maintained its connection with the public through traveling exhibitions and access to its collections dispersed throughout the county. ## Collections and Visitor Access During the period when the central headquarters was closed, the Buzău County Museum offered access to four distinct attractions. The amber collection in Colți commune represents one of the most valuable exhibitions, showcasing the richness of Buzău’s subsoil and the traditional crafts related to processing this material. The Vasile Voiculescu Memorial House, located in Pârscov village, preserves the atmosphere in which the poet and writer lived and created, offering visitors an insight into his life and work. Also part of the museum’s heritage is the Vergu-Mănăilă Ethnography and Folk Art Collection, which gathers traditional objects illustrating rural life in the area. The open-air sculpture camp in Măgura commune, a unique artistic project, transforms the natural landscape into an open gallery where contemporary works dialogue with nature. These locations remain open to the public, ensuring the continuity of the museum’s cultural mission until the complete reopening of the central headquarters.
