Despre acest obiectiv
## A Wilderness Oasis in the Heart of the Danube Delta Caraorman Forest spans 2,250 hectares in the central part of the eponymous sandbank, located south of the Sulina Branch. It is one of the most valuable fully protected areas within the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve. Declared a natural monument as early as 1940, this forest represents a unique ecosystem in Romania, where sand dunes reach heights of up to 9 meters—a singular phenomenon in the deltaic landscape. The impressive vegetation shelters centuries-old trees, including oaks towering over 30 meters, ash, and poplar trees, intertwined with rich Mediterranean flora: lianas stretching up to 25 meters, ivy, hops, and wild grapevines. The forest’s symbol is the "Kneeling Oak," a specimen over 400 years old with a circumference of 4 meters, whose branches touch the ground, creating an enchanting, fairy-tale image. ## A Biodiversity Habitat and Visitor Access Beyond its botanical value, Caraorman Forest serves as a refuge for wildlife, hosting nests of rare eagle species that have chosen this place to raise their young. Access to the area is exclusively by water, via boat or launch from the towns of Sulina or Crișan, followed by a walk along marked trails. Visitors are accompanied by authorized guides to protect the fragile ecosystem. An excursion to Caraorman is a journey through time, among shifting dunes and the ancient crowns of trees, where nature reveals its splendor in its purest form.
