## Criș Country Museum – A Cultural Treasure of Bihor The Criș Country Museum, located at 1A Armatei Street in Oradea, is one of the most significant museum institutions in northwestern Romania, housing an extensive heritage that illustrates the history, art, and nature of the region. Founded to preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Criș Country, the museum is structured into five distinct sections, each offering a unique perspective on the past and present of the area. ## Remarkable Sections and Collections The Archaeology Section forms the core of the museum, featuring exceptional pieces from the Neolithic, Bronze Age, and Dacian periods. Among the most valuable exhibits are artifacts from the Otomani culture, including decorative vessels and bronze tools, as well as the famous megaron temple from Sălacea, one of the few Bronze Age sanctuaries discovered in Romania. The medieval collection includes items from the Oradea Fortress, such as stove tiles, jewelry, weapons, and a rich lapidary collection. The History Section complements the region’s story with old documents, historical photographs, maps, and everyday objects. Here, three rare 17th-century prints are preserved, including the celebrated Bible printed in Oradea between 1660 and 1661, alongside collections of medieval keys, Turkish vessels, and ancient musical instruments. The Natural Sciences Section impresses with its 142,200 pieces, organized into mineralogy, paleontology, zoology, and botany collections, highlighting the region’s geological evolution and biodiversity. The Art Section houses over 12,500 pieces, structured into four collections: painting, sculpture, graphics, and decorative art. The Ethnography Section, with its 16,414 objects, presents local traditions from the Crasna-Barcău, Crișul Repede, Beiuș, Tinca-Salonta, and Crișul Alb areas, featuring collections of traditional costumes, ceramics, icons, and painted eggs. ## Visitor Guide The Criș Country Museum is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with easy access from central Oradea. Visitors can explore permanent and temporary exhibitions, and guided tours are available for organized groups.
