Despre acest obiectiv
## A Wild Landscape Between Târgușor and Grădină The Dobrogea Gorges represent one of the most spectacular natural formations in southeastern Romania, stretching approximately 10 kilometers between the villages of Târgușor and Grădină in Constanța County. This rocky gorge stands out for its dramatic contrasts: heights of 60-80 meters, sculpted over millennia by erosion, rise abruptly from an otherwise gentle landscape typical of the Dobrogea steppes. The relief is dominated by peculiar shapes—sharp towers, slender columns, solitary peaks, and stone pyramids—that seem plucked from a fantastical world. The most remarkable features, however, are the *atolls*, cylindrical rocks with a hard outer shell that encase friable rock within. These rare geological structures give the area a unique character in Romania, evoking the exotic landscapes of distant islands. ## A Subterranean and Vertical World The gorges impress not only with their surface formations but also with the 14 caves hidden within the limestone walls. The most famous is *Gura Dobrogei*, also known as the *Bat Cave*, a natural shelter for bat colonies and a point of interest for speleologists. Though modest in size, its interior preserves traces of human activity from ancient times, having been explored since prehistory. The area is also an ideal terrain for amateur rock climbing, with its steep yet accessible slopes offering opportunities for beginners. Low-difficulty routes allow visitors to get close to the cliffs and discover unexpected perspectives of the valley. ## Short Visitor’s Guide Access to the Dobrogea Gorges is via county road DJ 391, which connects Târgușor and Grădină. Though there are no complex tourist markings, the route is easy to identify due to the distinct relief. Visitors can explore the area on foot by following natural paths that wind among the rocks or opt for climbing, with basic equipment recommended. The ideal time to visit is spring and autumn, when temperatures are moderate, and the steppe vegetation adds color to the landscape. For those interested in speleology, the Bat Cave can be accessed with caution to avoid disturbing the bat colonies.
