Despre acest obiectiv
## The Roman Gateway to Dacia: Drobeta Fortress The Drobeta Roman Fortress, located at 2 Independenței Street in Drobeta-Turnu Severin, represents the first stone fortification built in Dacia by Emperor Traian between 103 and 105 AD. Constructed simultaneously with the famous Trajan’s Bridge, the fortress played a crucial strategic role, both militarily and politically, marking the beginning of Roman domination in the region. ## Architecture and Military Organization Spanning approximately two hectares, the fortress was designed as a typical fortified Roman military camp. Its walls housed soldiers' barracks, the commander’s residence, weapon and supply depots, as well as paved streets ensuring efficient movement within. Around 500 legionaries were stationed here, tasked with guarding Trajan’s Bridge, a vital artery connecting Dacia to the Roman Empire. Nearby, the remains of Roman baths from the same period have also been discovered, completing the picture of a well-organized military settlement. ## Visitor’s Guide Today, the ruins of the fortress can be explored in the heart of Drobeta-Turnu Severin, offering visitors an authentic journey into the region’s ancient history. Access is easy, as the monument is integrated into local tourist routes. For a complete experience, it is recommended to combine your visit with the Iron Gates Region Museum, located nearby, where artifacts discovered in the area—including items from the fortress and Trajan’s Bridge—are on display.
