Despre acest obiectiv
## A landmark of faith and resilience in the heart of Transylvania The Fortified Church of Laslea rises as a symbol of the Transylvanian Saxon community in Sibiu County, preserving the memory of centuries of history and faith. Built in the 15th century, the church harmoniously combines Gothic elements with defensive fortifications, reflecting the inhabitants' need for protection against Ottoman invasions and regional conflicts. While the exact year of construction remains unknown, historical documents attest to the presence of a church in Laslea as early as 1412, suggesting an age exceeding six centuries. ## Architecture and fortifications: between the sacred and the pragmatic The church retains characteristic features of Transylvanian Gothic architecture, with a massive bell tower and a rectangular nave, initially covered by a ribbed vault. The fortifications, added later, include an enclosure wall with battlements and a defensive tower, essential elements for protecting the community during turbulent times. The altar, reconstructed in the 18th century in the Baroque style, contrasts with the Gothic austerity of the nave, adding an additional layer of artistic complexity. The interior also houses a valuable collection of ecclesiastical furniture, including a 19th-century organ and a collection of wooden icons, testaments to local craftsmanship. ## Short guide for visitors The Fortified Church of Laslea is located in the center of the village, approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Mediaș and 60 kilometers from Sibiu. Access is via county road DJ142E, and parking is available near the church. Visitors can explore the church and fortified enclosure during opening hours, typically between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, though it is recommended to check in advance, as access may be restricted on service days.
