Despre acest obiectiv
## Fortified Church of Ticușu Vechi – A Symbol of Medieval Resilience The Fortified Church of Ticușu Vechi, located in the heart of Transylvania, stands as one of the best-preserved examples of Saxon religious and military architecture from the 13th century. Built during the consolidation of Saxon communities in the region, the church served both as a place of worship and a defensive stronghold against Ottoman and Tatar invasions that marked the Middle Ages in this area. ## Architecture and Defensive Elements The structure combines early Gothic style with Romanesque elements, characteristic of fortified churches in southeastern Transylvania. The main nave, constructed from stone and brick, is flanked by a massive bell tower, added later to enhance its defensive capabilities. The thick walls, narrow windows, and preserved battlements in the upper part of the tower reflect the adaptations made for military needs of the time. The interior of the church retains fragments of medieval frescoes and a Baroque altar, added in the 18th century, which contrasts with the Gothic austerity of the structure. The church courtyard is surrounded by an enclosure wall, reinforced with corner towers and a guard path, typical elements of village fortifications in the region. Although some parts of the fortification have been affected by time, the ensemble remains a compelling example of medieval ingenuity in construction. ## Visitor Guide The Fortified Church of Ticușu Vechi is located approximately 20 kilometers northwest of the city of Brașov, accessible via county road DJ104.
