Despre acest obiectiv
## Fortified Church of Velț – A Medieval Jewel of Transylvania The Fortified Church of Velț, located in the Bazna commune of Sibiu County, is a remarkable example of religious and defensive architecture characteristic of the Transylvanian Saxons. Built in the 15th century, the church combines Gothic elements with later adaptations, reflecting the evolution of the local community and the need for protection against invasions. While the exact year of its construction remains unknown, historical documents attest to the presence of a church in Velț as early as the Middle Ages, when the area was part of the network of fortified Saxon settlements. ## Architecture and Fortifications The church in Velț stands out due to its robust structure, typical of fortified churches in Transylvania. The main nave, with a rectangular plan, is flanked by a massive bell tower, added later to serve as an observation point. The polygonal apse, characteristic of the Gothic style, is adorned with narrow windows and pointed arches, lending the building a sober elegance. The thick walls, constructed from stone and brick, were originally surrounded by a fortified enclosure, of which only fragments remain today. The interior of the church preserves traces of medieval frescoes and simple yet valuable furnishings, including a Baroque altar and an 18th-century organ. ## Visitor Guide The Fortified Church of Velț is accessible to visitors year-round, with opening hours adapted to the season. Access is from the village center via a cobbled path leading directly to the church. While it does not have its own museum, the interior can be explored during services or by prior arrangement with the local parish. The surrounding area offers opportunities for nature walks, and nearby attractions include the Fortified Church of Bazna and the historic center of Sighișoara. Visitors are advised to respect the tranquility of the site and contribute to the preservation of this historic monument.
