Despre acest obiectiv
## Fortified Evangelical Church of Agnita Rising on the banks of the Hârtibaciu River in the heart of Agnita, the Fortified Evangelical Church complex is one of the region's most valuable medieval monuments. Built in the 14th century, this place of worship reflects the synthesis of spirituality and the need for defense, characteristic of medieval Transylvania. Originally a Roman Catholic church, it was taken over by the Saxon community following the Protestant Reformation, becoming a symbol of local identity. ## Architecture and Defensive Elements The church retains remarkable Gothic features, visible in the ribbed vault of the nave and the pointed windows adorned with simple stained glass. The bell tower, added in the 15th century, served both as an observation point and a final refuge in case of siege. Thick walls, crenellations, and battlements, along with the covered sentry walk, transformed the church into an efficient fortification. The fortified enclosure, with corner towers and bastions, was partially demolished in the 19th century, but fragments of it can still be observed. ## Visitor Guide The complex is located in the center of Agnita, just a few minutes from the main square. The church is open to visitors during the summer season (May-September), and access is through a well-preserved Gothic portal. The interior houses a valuable Baroque altar and an 18th-century organ, restored in the 2000s. For a complete experience, it is recommended to combine the visit with an exploration of the historic town center, where Saxon houses with vaulted gates and deep cellars complete the medieval atmosphere. Updated information about opening hours and cultural events can be obtained from the Agnita Tourist Information Center.
