Despre acest obiectiv
## A fortified jewel of Transylvania's Szeklerland The Fortified Unitarian Church of Arcuș stands proudly in the heart of the village, at the foothills of the Covasna hills, as a living testament to the resilience of the Szekler community in the face of history's hardships. Built in the 17th century, this site harmoniously combines religious and defensive functions, becoming one of the best-preserved monuments of its kind in Transylvania. Its thick walls and sturdy bastions have withstood not only the passage of time but also the repeated sieges of the Tatars, who often ravaged these lands between the 16th and 18th centuries. ## Architecture and fortifications: a dialogue between faith and defense The church impresses with its constructive sobriety, characteristic of the Unitarian faith. The rectangular nave, covered by a semi-cylindrical vault, is flanked by a massive bell tower, added later to enhance its defensive capacity. The most remarkable feature, however, is the fortification system, consisting of a high enclosure wall and four circular bastions, constructed in the 17th century. Among these, the southwestern bastion now houses a small museum, where visitors can discover old documents, liturgical objects, and exhibits that reconstruct the history of the village and the local Unitarian community. ## Short visitor's guide To reach the Fortified Unitarian Church of Arcuș, follow county road DJ121A from Sfântu Gheorghe toward Valea Crișului. The monument is located in the center of the village, easily accessible by car or on foot. Visiting hours may vary, so it is recommended to check in advance with the town hall or the Unitarian parish. Entry to the fortified enclosure is free, while access to the museum in the bastion requires a modest fee. A walk among the ancient walls of the church offers not only a journey through history but also a picturesque panorama of the green hills of Covasna.
