Despre acest obiectiv

## A Window to the World in the Heart of Sibiu The Franz Binder World Ethnographic Museum occupies a historic building at No. 11 Small Square, part of Sibiu’s medieval architectural ensemble. Founded in 1993 as a department of the "ASTRA" Museum Complex, the museum aims to showcase the world’s cultural diversity through an impressive collection of approximately 3,000 objects. The building itself, with its Transylvanian Baroque façades and authentic woodwork details, provides an intimate and fitting setting for its exhibits. ## Heritage Collected from Four Continents The museum’s collections are structured into two main categories. The first includes extra-European ethnographic pieces gathered in the second half of the 19th century, most of which were donated by Saxon travelers to the Transylvanian Society for Natural Sciences. The second category features objects acquired after 1990, including the notable Congolese Rang collection, traditional costumes of national minorities from China, handicrafts from Japan, Indonesia, Ecuador, and Argentina, as well as ethnographic dolls from India. Donations from embassies of non-European countries accredited in Romania and exchanges with similar institutions, such as the Japanese Museum of Toys in Hyogo, have played an essential role in enriching the collections. ## A Short Guide for Visitors The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with easy access from Sibiu’s historic center. Exhibits are organized thematically, allowing visitors to explore distant cultures through authentic objects, textiles, ceramics, and traditional instruments. Though modest in size, the building offers a concentrated and rich experience, ideal for those interested in anthropology and global cultural diversity. An additional attraction is the temporary events and workshops organized periodically, which delve into specific themes from the collections.
