Despre acest obiectiv
## A Glacial Oasis in the Heart of the Retezat Mountains Găleș Lake, also known as Zănoagele Gălesului, is one of the most spectacular glacial lakes in the Retezat Mountains, located at an altitude of 2,040 meters. Surrounded by the imposing peaks of Găleș (2,261 m) to the southwest and Valea Rea to the southeast, the lake covers an area of 3.5 hectares, reaching a maximum depth of 20.5 meters. Its formation is the result of glacial activity during the Ice Age, which sculpted the valley and left behind this ensemble of three glacial lakes, united in a landscape of rare beauty. ## Natural Features and Landscape Găleș Lake impresses with its crystal-clear waters, reflecting the steep slopes and coniferous forests that surround it. The area is dominated by alpine and subalpine vegetation, with species adapted to the harsh conditions at this altitude. During the summer months, the lake becomes a popular attraction for tourists exploring the beauties of Retezat National Park, offering an ideal setting for hiking and photography. In winter, the landscape transforms into a silent world, covered in snow and ice, accessible only to those with experience in mountain tourism. ## Access and Hiking Trail To reach Găleș Lake, hikers start from the village of Nucșoara, following a well-marked trail that passes through Pietrele Cabin. From the Lunca Largă point, located at the confluence of Valea Rea and Pietrele, the trail follows Valea Rea to the left, up to the confluence with Găleșu Stream. From here, the path ascends the left bank of the stream, crossing the Culmea Vaii Rele from the northeast, until reaching the lake. The route is demanding, with steep climbs and rocky sections, recommended for those in good physical condition and with appropriate equipment. The approximate duration of the hike is 5-6 hours, depending on the pace.
