Despre acest obiectiv
## History and Ancient Significance The Histria Archaeological Complex is located on the shores of Lake Sinoe, near the village of Istria in Constanța County, and represents one of Romania’s most important archaeological sites. Founded in the 7th century BCE by Greek colonists from Miletus, Histria was the first Greek colony on the territory of present-day Romania and a prosperous commercial center in antiquity. The city flourished between the 6th and 4th centuries BCE, becoming a key hub in trade relations between the Greek world and the Getae-Dacian populations. During the Roman period, Histria continued to thrive as part of the province of Moesia Inferior, until barbarian invasions and geopolitical shifts led to its gradual decline in the 7th century CE. ## Architecture and Archaeological Remains The museum complex encompasses the impressive ruins of the ancient city, covering approximately 60 hectares. Among the most notable remains are temples dedicated to Greek gods (such as Aphrodite and Apollo), Roman baths, early Christian basilicas, and defensive walls. The on-site museum displays artifacts discovered in the area, including pottery, coins, sculptures, and inscriptions, which illustrate the daily life and cultural evolution of the city over the centuries. A major highlight is the harbor sector, showcasing Histria’s commercial role in antiquity. ## Practical Visitor Guide Access to the Histria Archaeological Complex is via county road DJ226, approximately 65 km north of Constanța. The visiting schedule is seasonal: from April to October, the museum is open daily between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM, while in the off-season (November to March), it operates from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission fees are affordable, with discounts available for students, pupils, and seniors. Comfortable footwear is recommended, as the route includes uneven pedestrian paths. For a complete experience, visitors can combine exploring the site with a walk along the shores of Lake Sinoe, where nature and history intertwine harmoniously.
