Despre acest obiectiv
## A museum dedicated to a master of Romanian sculpture The Ion Irimescu Art Museum in Fălticeni opens its doors in an emblematic building of the city, the former Prefecture headquarters, constructed in the eclectic style at the beginning of the 20th century. This imposing structure, with its ornate façades and refined architectural details, has housed one of the region’s most valuable collections of fine art since 1974. Initially operating as a section of the Fălticeni Town Museum, it became an independent institution only in 1991, thanks to the generosity of sculptor Ion Irimescu. ## A unique collection, the fruit of a life dedicated to art The museum bears the name of the artist who brought it to life, Ion Irimescu (1903–2005), one of the most important Romanian sculptors of the 20th century. The master donated over 800 works to the municipality of Fălticeni, transforming the museum into the largest repository of creations by a single artist in the country. The permanent exhibition, organized across ten rooms, features sculptures in plaster, wood, terracotta, marble, and bronze, alongside drawings and preparatory sketches. Among these are expressive portraits, monumental compositions, and statue projects, reflecting the artist’s stylistic evolution from interwar realism to modern expressiveness. ## Practical guide for visitors The museum is located at 2 Mihai Eminescu Street, in the historic center of Fălticeni, just a few minutes from the central square. The visiting schedule is seasonally adjusted, and tickets can be purchased on-site. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum periodically hosts temporary exhibitions by local artists, offering a comprehensive perspective on the region’s artistic heritage. For art lovers, a visit here represents a rare opportunity to discover, in an intimate setting, the work of a sculptor who left a lasting mark on the history of Romanian art.
