Despre acest obiectiv
## Lake Ana – A Glacial Jewel in the Heart of the Retezat Mountains Lake Ana lies nestled in the glacial cirque of the Retezat Mountains, just a short distance from its better-known sister, Lake Lia. Part of Retezat National Park, this high-altitude lake sits at 1,990 meters, making it one of the highest and most spectacular bodies of water in the region. Its distinctive pear shape, with a length of 260 meters and a width of 180 meters, gives it a surface area of 3.10 hectares, while its maximum depth reaches 11.5 meters. ## Origins and Ecosystem Formed thousands of years ago by retreating glaciers, Lake Ana is fed by a stream originating from Lake Viorica, with a generous flow of 200-300 liters per second. Its outflow leads toward Lake Lia, creating a natural hydrological circuit. The lake’s crystal-clear waters are home to a population of indigenous trout, a species adapted to the harsh conditions of the mountain environment. ## Access and Visitor Trails To reach Lake Ana, the most accessible starting point is Gura Apei. The trail follows the Lapusnicul Mare Valley, passing by the impressive Voileasa Waterfall (12 meters high) and Gura Bucurei. From there, the path continues along the left bank of the Bucura River, ascending toward Lake Lia, where only a 15-minute walk along the Bucura-Ana-Slavei trail is needed. The untamed landscape, with its steep cliffs and coniferous forests, turns every step into a memorable experience. A visit to Lake Ana is an immersion into the wild heart of the Retezat Mountains, where nature reveals its beauty in its purest form.
