Despre acest obiectiv
## Lia Lake – The Hidden Jewel of Retezat Lia Lake lies concealed in the heart of Retezat National Park, within the Zănoaga Bucura glacial cirque, at an altitude of 1,910 meters—the lowest among all lakes in the massif. Formed thousands of years ago by retreating glaciers, this triangular body of water reveals its charm amidst a wild valley, dominated by the sharp ridges of the Retezat Mountains. Covering an area of 1.35 hectares and reaching a maximum depth of 4.5 meters, Lia Lake captivates with the clarity of its waters and the reflection of the surrounding cliffs, creating a landscape of almost mystical tranquility. ## A Living and Accessible Ecosystem Fed by springs descending from the chain of lakes in Zănoaga and Căldarea Bucurii, Lia Lake channels its waters onward through the emissary that forms the source of the Bucura Valley. Here, trout thrive in an ideal habitat, with the lake hosting the largest population among all lakes in the glacial cirque. Access is surprisingly easy for such a wild corner: from the end of the forest road along Lăpușnicul Mare, which stops at Drăcsanu Stream, 14 kilometers from Gura Apelor, the route continues on foot, following the marked trails. Though demanding, the journey rewards visitors with spectacular views and the peace of a place untouched by crowds. ## Quick Visitor Guide To reach Lia Lake, start from Gura Apelor toward Pietrele Cabin, following the forest road to Drăcsanu Stream. From there, the trail marked with a red stripe ascends for approximately 2-3 hours through the forest and across alpine meadows, leading to the glacial cirque. Proper equipment—hiking footwear, waterproof clothing, and supplies—is essential, as the weather in Retezat can change abruptly. The lake is ideal for hikers seeking an authentic experience, far from crowded trails, offering opportunities for relaxation, fishing, or simply admiring the landscape. Remember to respect park rules: leave no trace and do not disturb the local wildlife.
