## An Eclectic Jewel of Interwar Constanța The Lions' House, located on Titulescu Street in the heart of Constanța, is one of the most elegant residences built at the beginning of the 20th century. Constructed by a prominent member of the local Armenian community, the building reflects the opulence and refinement of an era when the city experienced rapid urban development. Although the architect’s identity is not documented, the name D. Berindei is frequently associated with this project, suggesting influences of his characteristic style. ## Sumptuous Architecture and Powerful Symbols The edifice impresses with its eclectic stylistic synthesis, combining Renaissance elements with Swiss Baroque details. The façade, of rare elegance, is dominated by four stone lions perched on high pedestals, supporting columns with ornate capitals. These are decorated with classical motifs—ovolo moldings, laurel leaves, volutes, palmettes, and acanthus leaves—giving the building a Venetian grandeur. The columns, with fluted shafts and alternating flat rings, rise from massive pedestals, reinforcing the impression of solidity and refinement. The interior, though no longer fully preserving its original decorations, evokes the residences of Italian merchants, with spacious rooms and sumptuous details. In 1921, the building housed a bank, and until 1941, it served as the home of Bebi Emirzian, son of the founder Dicran Emirzian. After nationalization in 1950, it was converted into rental space, gradually losing its initial splendor. ## Short Visitor’s Guide The Lions' House is situated in the historic center of Constanța, at the intersection of Titulescu Street and Tomis Boulevard, accessible on foot or by public transport. Though not permanently open for visits, its façade and architectural details can be admired from the outside.
