Despre acest obiectiv
## A medieval jewel in the heart of Transylvania The Mălâncrav Fortified Church stands as a symbol of resilience and faith for the Transylvanian Saxon community in southern Transylvania. Located in the center of the village of the same name, approximately 60 kilometers northeast of Sibiu, this medieval structure harmoniously blends Gothic and defensive elements, reflecting the region's tumultuous history. ## Architecture and frescoes of inestimable value Built in the 14th century, the church retains its original hall-type structure, with a massive bell tower added later. Its most remarkable feature is the ensemble of Gothic frescoes on the interior walls, dating from around 1400. These depict biblical scenes and figures of saints and are considered some of the best-preserved medieval murals in Transylvania. The fortifications, added in the 16th century, include an enclosure wall with defensive towers and a patrol path, designed to protect the community in times of danger. ## Practical guide for visitors Access to Mălâncrav is via county road DJ106 from Mediaș or Sighișoara. The church is open for visits during the tourist season (April–October), while access for the rest of the year can be arranged by contacting the local priest or town hall. The visiting schedule is flexible, but it is recommended to verify in advance. Inside, light filtered through narrow windows creates a unique atmosphere, highlighting the details of the frescoes and church furnishings. The village itself, with its traditional Saxon houses and picturesque rural landscapes, is worth exploring, offering an authentic immersion into Transylvanian history and culture.
