Despre acest obiectiv
## A Corner of History at the Foot of the Carpathians: Mikes Castle in Zăbala Built in the 16th century, Mikes Castle in Zăbala stands as a living testament to the past of Transylvanian nobility, surrounded by a fairy-tale landscape. Set on a 34-hectare estate of forest and dendrological park, the castle overlooks the valley with breathtaking views of the Carpathian Mountains, offering visitors an atmosphere of tranquility and rustic elegance. Over the centuries, the building has undergone multiple transformations. During the communist era, it functioned as a school and later as a hospital, temporarily losing its former splendor. After being restituted to the descendants of the Mikes family, the castle was restored and reopened to the public, becoming known as the *Zabola Estate*. Today, it is a popular attraction for tourists eager to discover the charm of Hungarian aristocracy in Transylvania. ## Architecture and Atmosphere Although the initial construction details have been partially altered by subsequent adaptations, the castle retains elements characteristic of noble residences from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Its thick walls, tall windows, and sloping roof reveal influences of the Transylvanian style, blended with discreet decorative accents. The surrounding park, featuring rare tree species and winding paths, completes the image of a secluded retreat, ideal for walks and moments of relaxation. ## Visitor’s Guide Mikes Castle is open to tourists year-round, with seasonal visiting hours. Visitors can explore the restored interiors, which host exhibitions on the history of the Mikes family and the region, or stroll through the park and adjacent forest. Cultural events, such as concerts and local wine tastings, add extra charm to the experience. Access is via county road DJ121A, approximately 30 kilometers from Sfântu Gheorghe, with parking available on the estate grounds.
