Nicolae Iorga Memorial House

Despre acest obiectiv

## A Site of National Memory: Nicolae Iorga Memorial House The Nicolae Iorga Memorial House in Prahova preserves the legacy of one of Romania’s most prominent historians and cultural figures. Located in the town of Vălenii de Munte, the building served as the scholar’s summer residence between 1907 and 1940, a period during which many of his foundational works on Romanian historiography were written. The property was transformed into a museum in 1946, becoming a key reference point for researchers and history enthusiasts. ## Architecture and Museum Collections The museum complex consists of two distinct sections: the main house (Building A) and the annex (Building B), both constructed in the Neo-Romanian style characteristic of the early 20th century. Building A, the primary residence, retains its original furniture, Iorga’s personal library with over 12,000 volumes, manuscripts, correspondence, and personal belongings. Among the valuable exhibits is the historian’s study, where he authored works such as *The History of the Romanians* and *The History of Romanian Literature*. Building B hosts temporary exhibitions and a conference hall, continuing the scholar’s cultural mission. ## Visitor’s Guide The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with easy access from the center of Vălenii de Munte. Visitors can explore both sections of the house, with guided tours available in Romanian and English. In the museum courtyard, a bust of Nicolae Iorga and a memorial plaque commemorate the deep connection between the scholar and this historic site. For those interested in Romania’s modern history, a visit here perfectly complements the cultural itinerary of Prahova County.
