Despre acest obiectiv
## Piatra Roșie Dacian Fortress – A Fortress of a Bygone Kingdom Located on the Piatra Roșie plateau at an altitude of 832 meters, the Dacian fortress of Luncani (Bosorod commune) stands as one of the most impressive testimonies to the defensive system of pre-Roman Dacia. Included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, the fortification functioned between the 1st century BCE and the 1st century CE, playing a strategic role in protecting the capital of the Dacian kingdom against threats from the north. ## Architecture and Defensive Organization The fortress was constructed in two distinct phases, each reflecting increasingly complex defensive needs. The first enclosure, with a quadrangular plan, featured interior corner towers and a central tower on the eastern side, which served as the entrance gate. A stone-paved road, flanked by three guard towers, led to the interior of the fortification, where traces of a timber-framed building plastered with clay, a rock-hewn cistern for water collection, and the remnants of a sanctuary have been identified. Later, a second enclosure was added, with walls of stone and earth (1.5–2 meters thick), reinforced with palisades, which included habitable terraces and the ancient road. ## Visitor Guide The Piatra Roșie Fortress can be accessed from the village of Luncani by following a marked trail that ascends to the fortified plateau. Although destroyed during the second Daco-Roman war, its ruins offer a fascinating perspective on Dacian defensive ingenuity. Visitors can explore the stone-paved paths, observation towers, and terraces, discovering an essential chapter in Romania’s ancient history.
