Despre acest obiectiv
## Postăvarilor Bastion – Brașov’s Medieval Fortress Located on Tiberiu Brediceanu Alley in the heart of Brașov, the Postăvarilor Bastion is one of the best-preserved defensive structures of the medieval citadel. Built between 1450 and 1455, the bastion was erected to protect the city’s eastern flank, frequently exposed to attacks. Its impressive dimensions—16 meters in diameter, 20 meters in height, and walls 2 meters thick—reflect the strategic importance of the fortification, designed to withstand sieges and incursions. ## Architecture and Defensive Features The bastion is organized across four levels, each serving a precise role in the citadel’s defense. Initially maintained and defended by the goldsmiths’ guild, one of Brașov’s most influential, the fortification was equipped with advanced weaponry for its time: small cannons, bombards, and 16 arquebuses. These provided significant firepower, essential for repelling attacks. Later, the bastion came under the care of the furriers’ guild, from which it derived its name to this day. ## Restorations and Visitor Access Over the centuries, the Postăvarilor Bastion has undergone multiple maintenance interventions, the most significant taking place between 1961 and 1962, followed by a major renovation in 2005. Today, the monument is open to the public, offering an authentic perspective on Brașov’s medieval defensive system. Visitors can explore the massive structure and architectural details while uncovering the stories of the guilds that contributed to the citadel’s defense. Its central location makes it easy to include in the city’s tourist routes.
