Despre acest obiectiv
## Roșia Montană Gold Mining Museum – A Journey into the Heart of Mountain History The Roșia Montană Gold Mining Museum is located at 178 Principal Street, in the heart of a region with a millennia-old tradition in gold extraction. Situated near former mining operations, the museum serves as a living document of mining activity in the Apuseni Mountains, from its origins to the present day. Its collections offer an authentic perspective on the techniques and tools used over the centuries, highlighting the industrial and cultural heritage of the area. ## The Historical Treasure of Roman Galleries One of the museum’s most impressive attractions is the Roman gallery, a testament to ancient technical ingenuity. These underground tunnels, stretching for tens of kilometers, were excavated nearly 2,000 years ago and demonstrate the Romans' mastery in mineral resource exploitation. These galleries, considered historical monuments, are accompanied by tools and artifacts discovered in the ruins of the former city, illustrating the complexity of gold extraction in antiquity. The museum’s lapidarium houses inscriptions and sculptural fragments that complete the story of this exceptional site. ## Mining Exhibitions and Installations The museum features a series of exhibits that reconstruct the evolution of mining techniques. Among these are wooden stamp mills with 9 and 12 arms, used for separating gold from rock, as well as the tool house and the stamper’s hut (cramul), where miners' tools were prepared. A detailed model of a gallery, along with specific accessories, provides visitors with a clear image of working conditions underground. The displayed mining installations, some of which are functional, complete this immersion into the world of traditional mining. ## Visitor’s Guide The museum is open year-round, with hours adapted to the season. Access is easy from the town center, and nearby attractions include Roman galleries open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to combine their museum experience with a walk through the mountainous landscape, rich in history and natural beauty. Additional information about guided tours and special events can be obtained directly at the museum’s headquarters.
