Despre acest obiectiv
## A Spiritual Fortress on Cohalm Hill The Rupea Fortified Church stands proudly atop Cohalm Hill, dominating the town and surrounding landscapes of Brașov County. Built in the 14th century by the local Saxon community, this site harmoniously combines religious and defensive functions, making it one of the best-preserved medieval monuments in Transylvania. Initially constructed in the Gothic style, the church has undergone successive transformations, reflecting the evolution of construction techniques and the needs of the community. ## Architecture and Defensive Features The main nave, vaulted in a cross-ribbed style, retains original Gothic elements such as pointed-arch portals and windows. The massive bell tower, added in the 16th century, served both as an observation point and a final refuge during sieges. The thick walls, crenellations, and defensive gallery at the upper level of the tower bear witness to the church’s strategic role. The fortified enclosure, with its high walls and corner towers, completes the ensemble, providing protection for Rupea’s inhabitants during turbulent times. ## Visitor Guide The Rupea Fortified Church is accessible year-round, with opening hours adapted to the season. Access is via a cobbled path ascending Cohalm Hill, offering panoramic views of the town and neighboring hills. Inside, visitors can admire the Baroque altar, historic organ, and a collection of liturgical objects. The museum within the fortification displays exhibits related to the history of the Saxon community and local crafts.
