Despre acest obiectiv
## A Royal Symbol Between History and Nature Săvârșin Royal Castle stands on the right bank of the Mureș River, at the foothills of the Highiș-Drocea Mountains, accessible via the European route E68, 86 km from Arad and 67 km from Deva. Built in the 17th century, the castle bears the imprint of multiple eras and noble families, initially owned by the Forray, Nádasdy, and Hunyady families. Destroyed during the 1848 Revolution, the castle was rebuilt and acquired in 1943 by King Michael I, serving as a royal residence until its confiscation by the communist regime in 1948. It was only in 2001 that the property was returned to the Royal House, reclaiming its status as a symbol of Romania’s modern history. ## Architecture and Memorable Events Although reconstructed in the 19th century, the castle retains elements of Baroque and Neoclassical styles, adapted to the tastes of the era. The building, with its discreet towers and symmetrical façades, harmoniously blends into the natural landscape of the estate. Its history is marked by dramatic events: in 1784, Vicecomes Andrei Forray was kidnapped by the outlaws of Petre Baciu, and his release was negotiated directly with Emperor Joseph II. That same November, the bands of Horea, Cloșca, and Crișan were welcomed by the serfs of the region, who joined the uprising. ## The Dendrological Park and Visitor Access Surrounding the castle is a 6.5-hectare dendrological park, declared a natural monument. Here, visitors can admire rare species such as silver fir, spruce, pyramidal thuja, swamp cypress, Chinese acacia, and centuries-old oaks. Access to the castle and park is permitted by appointment, and guided tours offer an immersive journey into the royal and natural history of the estate. A must-visit for those passionate about heritage and picturesque landscapes.
