Despre acest obiectiv
## A Biodiversity Oasis in the Heart of the Apuseni Mountains The Scărița-Belioara Geobotanical Reserve spans 450 hectares in the mountainous region of the Apuseni, at an altitude of over 1,350 meters, within the territories of Posaga and Ocoliș communes. Established in 1941, it protects a unique ecosystem comprising the alpine meadows of Sesul Craiului, ancient forests on Scărița Mountain, and spectacular cliffs along the Belioara Valley. The landscape is complemented by a network of fascinating caves, including "Coșul Boului" (Bull’s Chimney), "Peștera Roșie" (Red Cave), and "Peștera Lungă" (Long Cave), which harbor life forms adapted to subterranean conditions. ## Exceptional Flora and Fauna The reserve serves as a refuge for rare species, both plant and animal. It is home to endemic and glacial relict plants, while its fauna includes remarkable butterflies and the golden eagle (*Aquila chrysaetos*), Romania’s largest bird of prey. Although a fire in 1993 affected part of the habitat, the area remains a natural laboratory for researchers, offering unique opportunities to study mountain biodiversity. ## Access and Visitor Recommendations To reach Scărița-Belioara, the journey begins from the Băișoara resort, following a trail that takes approximately three hours on foot. Visitors are advised to wear appropriate footwear for rugged terrain and to respect environmental protection rules. While there is no developed tourist infrastructure, the wild landscapes and tranquility of the site reward the effort, providing an authentic experience in the heart of nature.
