St. Margaret Evangelical Church in Mediaș

Despre acest obiectiv

• located in the center of Mediaș;
• dedicated to "Saint Margaret";
• research has shown that the site of the current church once housed a cemetery and three other religious stone structures;
• following the Turkish invasion of 1438, the defensive fortification around the church was strengthened with a double wall and several defense towers, a complex that has been preserved to this day;
• today, the church is a late Gothic structure, and its tower stands at a height of 68.5 meters;
• the church's most valuable piece is the late Gothic triptych altar dating from the 1480s-1490s, featuring eight painted panels depicting scenes from the Passion of Christ;
• the empty niches in the altar's predella contain funerary stones;
• it houses a collection of Oriental carpets and a series of wooden sculptures.
