Despre acest obiectiv
## A Gothic Jewel in the Heart of Brașov St. Nicholas Church in Brașov stands proudly in Unirii Square, at number 2, as one of the oldest and most significant places of worship in the city. Built in 1495 from stone, the church was erected on the site of three previous religious buildings, the first of which was made of wood, while the other two were also constructed from stone. Over the centuries, the church has undergone numerous transformations, harmoniously blending Gothic elements with Baroque influences, which give it a unique charm today. ## Architecture and Painting: A Synthesis of Styles Architecturally, the church impresses with its rectangular nave, connected to a circular apse in the east and a narthex and porch in the west. The interior is dominated by frescoes created in the early 20th century by artist Costin Petrescu, depicting key moments in the history of Brașov and the church. Among the most remarkable scenes are the entry of Michael the Brave into the city, portraits of the founding voivodes, the allegory of the Coresian typography, the coronation of King Ferdinand in Alba Iulia, as well as portraits of Metropolitans Andrei Șaguna and Nicolae Bălan, alongside those of King Michael and Queen Elena. ## A Place of Memory and Spirituality The adjacent cemetery houses the graves of notable Romanian figures, such as diplomat Nicolae Titulescu, doctor Aurel Popovici, physician Ioan Meșota, priest Vasile Saftu, and many others. This detail transforms the church into a veritable pantheon of local and national history. Visitors can admire the church daily between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with free admission, though donations are welcome for the maintenance of the monument. A stop here offers not only an insight into religious architecture and art but also a profound connection with Brașov’s vibrant past.
