Despre acest obiectiv
## A museum of national history in the heart of a former capital The Târgoviște History Museum opens its doors in the imposing building of the former Palace of Justice, located on Domnească Road, the historic artery that connected the princely courts of Wallachia for centuries. Built in the neoclassical style at the beginning of the 20th century, the edifice combines the sobriety of its architectural lines with the functionality of spaces designed for exhibitions, providing an appropriate setting for the archaeological and historical treasures it houses. The symmetrical façade, with columns and a triangular pediment, evokes the administrative importance Târgoviște held in the modern era, when the city was still a major political and cultural center. ## A journey through millennia of Romanian history The museum's permanent exhibition reconstructs the evolution of the Romanian people from the earliest traces of human presence in these lands to the Great Union of 1918. The archaeological collections reveal Neolithic ceramics and figurines, testimonies of prehistoric communities, as well as rare coin hoards, such as the Thassian and Macedonian silver coins from the 2nd-1st centuries BCE discovered at Căprioru, or the Dacian coins from Adânca. The lapidarium displays fragments of inscriptions and medieval architectural elements, while the section dedicated to the feudal era includes Brâncovenesc frescoes, old books, and woodcuts, illustrating the cultural flourishing of Wallachia. A special place is occupied by the rulers who marked the history of the city and the country: Neagoe Basarab, Petru Cercel, Michael the Brave, Matei Basarab, and Constantin Brâncoveanu are evoked through documents, weapons, military costumes, and heraldic insignia. The revolution led by Tudor Vladimirescu and the Union of the Principalities under Alexandru Ioan Cuza are presented through exhibits that highlight Târgoviște's role in national events. ## Practical guide for visitors The museum is open daily between 09:00 and 17:00, except on Mondays. Access is through the main entrance on Domnească Road, and the spaces are adapted for visitors with reduced mobility. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum periodically hosts temporary exhibitions, symposia, and international congresses, transforming it into an active cultural hub of the region. For a complete experience, visitors can complement their visit with an exploration of the ruins of the Princely Court and the Chindia Tower, located nearby.
