Despre acest obiectiv
## A Tradition Oasis in the Heart of Transylvania The Târgu Mureș Ethnographic Museum opens its doors in the former Mureș Prefecture building, a historic monument constructed in 1905 in an eclectic style with neo-Baroque influences. Designed by architect Komor Marcell, the edifice impresses with its symmetrical façade, central balcony supported by columns, and rich interior decorations, partially preserved to this day. Its transformation into a museum took place in 1950, marking the beginning of a mission to conserve and promote the local cultural heritage. ## A Treasure of Szekler Crafts and Traditions The museum’s collections house over 12,000 items, illustrating rural life in the Mureș region and Szeklerland. Permanent exhibitions showcase traditional costumes, agricultural tools, ceramics, textiles, and household objects, reflecting the ingenuity and aesthetics of Hungarian, Romanian, and Saxon communities. Highlights include a collection of 18th-century glass icons, a reconstructed pottery workshop, and a section dedicated to Szekler folk attire, featuring fine embroidery and distinctive geometric motifs. ## Visitor Guide The museum is located in the city center, at 12 Bolyai Street, just a 10-minute walk from Rose Square. Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the last entry at 4:30 PM. Admission is 10 RON for adults, with discounts available for students, pupils, and seniors. Exhibits are spread across two levels, and the route includes a section for temporary exhibitions, which spotlight local artists or contemporary ethnographic themes. For a complete experience, allocate 60-90 minutes for your visit.
