Despre acest obiectiv
## Tudor Arghezi Memorial House – A Window into the Poet’s Creative Universe Located at 26 Mărțișor Street in the heart of Bucharest, the Tudor Arghezi Memorial House preserves the legacy of one of Romania’s most important writers. The building became the poet’s residence in 1930, and in the autumn of 1947, in accordance with his testamentary wishes, it was transformed into a museum. The house’s architecture, featuring a ground floor and an upper level, reflects the sober interwar style, tailored to the needs of an intellectual family. Its 18 rooms and outbuildings now house an impressive collection of personal belongings, manuscripts, and works of art. ## A Sanctuary of Creativity and Family Life The heart of the house is Arghezi’s "laboratory," where his vast library—containing thousands of volumes—is preserved, alongside an old radio and an icon over 150 years old. Here, visitors can discover the medals and decorations awarded to the poet, including the prestigious Gottfried von Herder Prize, bestowed in 1965, which made him the first Romanian writer to receive this European distinction. The children’s room, belonging to his son and daughter, Paraschiva and Baruțu, retains its original furniture, toys, and school slates, offering an authentic glimpse into family life. The dining room is another highlight, featuring a gramophone, a samovar, and paintings by renowned artists. In the adjacent building, a permanent exhibition showcases volumes of poetry and prose, manuscripts, documents, and magazines edited by Arghezi, complemented by a rich iconography illustrating the history of the house and its inhabitants. ## Visitor Information The memorial house is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Admission is available for a modest fee, allowing visitors to explore both the interior spaces and the adjacent exhibition. An ideal destination for literature and history enthusiasts, the Arghezi House offers an authentic journey into the life and work of a great creator.
