Despre acest obiectiv
## Women's Cave – A Speleological and Paleontological Treasure of Oltenia Women's Cave, located on the right slope of the Galbenului Gorges at an altitude of 700 meters, is one of Romania's most significant natural monuments. Carved into the Mesozoic limestone of the Parâng Massif by the waters of the Galbenul River, the cave formed over four million years ago, becoming a true underground museum. With a total length of 3,566 meters and a vertical drop of 57 meters, it spans four levels, though only the upper level—approximately 900 meters long—is accessible to the public. ## A Treasure Trove of History and Biodiversity The cave shelters rare geological formations, such as dahllite, found in only two other caverns in the country, as well as exceptional paleontological and archaeological remains. Excavations have uncovered Paleolithic flint tools, ceramic fragments, and bones of extinct species, including the cave hyena, cave lion, and cave bear (*Ursus spelaeus*). The most valuable discovery was a *Homo sapiens fossilis* skull, found in 1952, which confirms human presence in the area thousands of years ago. In the Guano Chamber and the 17-meter-high Cupola, bat colonies contribute to the balance of the subterranean ecosystem. ## Attractions and Access The visitable section impresses with its spectacular formations: the Small Dome, resembling a Gothic cupola; the Altar Chamber; the Women's Wave; the Petrified Waterfalls; and the image of the Bloodied Rock, created by iron oxides. A constant temperature (9–12°C) and high humidity (50–100%) complete the cave's unique atmosphere. Visiting hours vary by season: from May to October, access is permitted between 09:00 and 20:00 (last entry at 19:00), while for the rest of the year, it is open from 09:00 to 17:00 (last entry at 16:00). Women's Cave remains a fascinating destination, blending subterranean mystery with the richness of natural and historical heritage.
