Despre acest obiectiv
## A Jewel of Maramureș Heritage The Wooden Church of Plopiș stands majestically in the namesake village, within the administrative territory of Șișești commune, and is one of the most valuable places of worship in Maramureș. Built in 1798, it is dedicated to the "Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel" and represents a remarkable example of architectural balance, harmoniously integrated into the rural landscape of the region. ## Architecture and Symbolism The edifice impresses with its well-calculated proportions, consisting of a porch, pronaos, naos, and altar, all raised on a solid stone foundation. The bell tower, characteristic of Maramureș churches, adds verticality and elegance to the ensemble. The interior painting, executed in 1811 by the painter Ștefan, stands out for its exceptional preservation of biblical scenes, most of which illustrate episodes from the Apocalypse. The vivid colors and fine details of the frescoes lend the interior a deeply spiritual atmosphere, reflecting the local iconographic tradition. ## Access and Visitor Recommendations The church is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is included in the circuit of historical landmarks of national interest. Visitors can easily reach Plopiș, located approximately 20 kilometers from Baia Mare, via county road DJ109F. The visiting schedule is seasonally adjusted, and access is granted with respect for the norms specific to a place of worship. A stop here offers not only an incursion into the history and religious art of Maramureș but also an authentic experience in harmony with the secular traditions of the area.
